Your mental health and wellbeing is as much of a priority for us as your physical health and safety.<\/p>\n<p>Boston University has a collection of mental health resources available to doctoral students collated on the Behavioral Medicine <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/shs\/getting-started\/resources-for-well-being\/\">website<\/a>. Graduate students are also eligible for a free subscription to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/provost\/wellbeingproject\/wellbeing-project-resources\/\">Headspace app<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span>Our Postdoc Academy course has content focused on\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.postdocacademy.org\/developing-resilience\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">resilience<\/a><span>\u00a0that may be helpful during this time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Finally, the American Psychological Association offers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa.org\/practice\/programs\/dmhi\/research-information\/social-distancing\">guidance<\/a> for preserving mental health in times of social distancing.<\/p>\n<h2>Connect with your colleagues on Slack<\/h2>\n<p><span>Want some company during this time of social distance? Connect with fellow postdocs via our new BU Postdocs\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/join.slack.com\/t\/bostonunivers-1ud9166\/shared_invite\/zt-cp70z1pd-dxBvcLhm1~D03MlOdhFl0g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Slack Channel<\/a><span>. Share articles via journal club, organize a virtual writing session, ask for help, or just check-in with our community on a regular basis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/join.slack.com\/t\/bostonunivers-1ud9166\/shared_invite\/zt-cp70z1pd-dxBvcLhm1~D03MlOdhFl0g\"><em>Connect<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Events<\/h2>\n<p><strong>All events scheduled to take place prior to 4\/13\/2020, including the Navigating the Stressors of Academia<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><strong>event,\u00a0have been cancelled. We will provide updated information for events scheduled in April and May, including the Postdoc Retreat, in our Postdoctoral Digest regularly scheduled for early April.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For other professional development opportunities and resources be sure to check out our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/postdocs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Professional Development &amp; Postdoctoral Affairs<\/a>\u00a0website.<\/p>\n<h2>Guidance for postdocs<\/h2>\n<div><span><strong>Research operations<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div>New guidance on research has been issued on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/id-ashley.cms-devl.bu.edu\/researchsupport\/2020\/03\/16\/covid-19-update-on-research-activity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CRC<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/bumc-covid-19-information\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BUMC<\/a>.\u00a0If you have concerns with continuing your research efforts on campus, please discuss with your research supervisor\u00a0or department chair.\u00a0We ask all faculty, staff, and students to seek creative and flexible solutions to the current situation.\u00a0Where research need not be undertaken on campus and can be moved forward remotely, this option is best.<\/div>\n<div><span><strong>Teaching remotely<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Postdoctoral Associates\/Lecturers or other postdocs with teaching roles should not be required to conduct any in-person instruction through April 13, 2020. Consult with your faculty teaching advisor or School\/College to understand how your teaching responsibilities will be translated into a virtual classroom space.<\/p>\n<div><span><strong>MBTA passes<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<p>The regular deadline for cancelling April MBTA passes has passed but we have worked with Parking and Transportation to accommodate these cancellations.<\/p>\n<p><em>Employee postdocs<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>should email\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:parking@bu.edu?subject=Cancel%20April%20MBTA%20pass\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">parking@bu.edu<\/a>\u00a0with their BU ID number and a request to cancel their\u00a0April\u00a0MBTA pass<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>by close of business on March 25<\/strong>. If employees wish to cancel\u00a0May\u00a0passes, they should do so through\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ppo.buw.bu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BUworks<\/a>\u00a0(Employee Self Service \u2013 Campus Services \u2013 \u201cApply\/Manage MBTA Pass and MBTA Parking Benefits\u201d).<\/p>\n<p><em>Non-employee postdocs<\/em>\u00a0should email<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"mailto:postdocs@bu.edu?subject=Cancel%20April%20MBTA%20pass\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">postdocs@bu.edu<\/a>\u00a0with their BU ID number and a request to cancel their\u00a0April\u00a0MBTA pass<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>by noon on Tuesday, March 25<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Online teaching training<\/h2>\n<p><span><strong>Translating In-person Teaching Strategies Online<\/strong><\/span><span>: Professional Development &amp; Postdoctoral Affairs, in partnership with the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Office of Distance Education, will be offering training sessions for graduate students and postdocs with current teaching roles who are interested in developing skills for online teaching and facilitation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This 90 minute virtual workshop will be a mixture of practical tips for maximizing Zoom and Blackboard functionalities, as well as strategies for achieving student engagement and learning in an online environment. We will also provide time for Q&amp;A.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sessions will be offered on the following dates and times:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>March 23, 2020 1:00 &#8211; 2:30 pm EDT<\/span><br \/>\n<span>March 25, 2020 1:00 &#8211; 2:30 pm EDT<\/span><br \/>\n<span>March 26, 2020 2:00 &#8211; 3:30 pm EDT<\/span><br \/>\n<span>March 27, 2020 10:00 &#8211; 11:30 am EDT<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Postdocs are also eligible to participate in Zoom training sessions offered for faculty and instructors by Digital Learning &amp; Innovation.
